Reviewing Your Plan - Summary

Written by Aidan Bocci

📊 Summary Report Overview – Understanding JBP Impact

The Summary report is your key tool for understanding the overall business impact of a supplier’s Joint Business Plan (JBP) submitted to the retailer. It provides a concise, high-level view of how performance is expected to shift compared to last year, with a focus on unit volumes, costs, and value outcomes.

This report is designed for quick insight and alignment between supplier and retailer on the results of the plan, helping to assess whether the proposed JBP will deliver meaningful commercial impact.

🚀 What’s Included in the Summary Report?

1. Waterfall Chart

At the top of the page, you’ll find a waterfall chart that visually breaks down the change in performance metrics (such as Unit Volume, COGS $, Retail Sales $, or Retail GM $) from last year’s estimate (LYE) to the projected total under the JBP.

Each bar in the chart represents a stage in the JBP evaluation process:

  • Latest Year Estimate: A baseline showing performance in the prior year.

  • True Base: Current-year estimate excluding one-off external changes.

  • Corrected Base: Adjusted for major external factors beyond supplier control.

  • Unpromoted Base: Further adjusts for changes in the base plan excluding promotions.

  • Incremental Impact Bars: Each product- or promotion-related bar shows the impact of changes such as new items, de-lists, or increased distribution (e.g., "P: GOOD FOR YOU MILK").

  • Projection: The total expected outcome after applying all planned changes and investments.

Use the dropdown to switch between metrics to view different types of impact (e.g., volume vs. sales vs. margin).

2. Performance Summary Table

Below the chart is a detailed summary table that quantifies the values shown in the waterfall. This includes:

  • Unit Volume

  • COGS (Supplier NSV)

  • Retail Sales

  • Retail Gross Margin

The table highlights the total projected performance and the variance compared to the previous year, both in absolute and percentage terms. Green shading indicates positive growth or gains.

✅ How to Use It

  • Use this page to validate the total impact of your plan before submission.

  • Ensure all planned changes are included and check that the outcome aligns with your goals.

  • Share it with internal teams or retailers to provide a clear summary of what the JBP will deliver.
