Building Your Plan - Where To Start

How do I start work on building my JBP?

Written by Aidan Bocci

You're ready to start work on building your JBP when you've:

  • Invited your team onto Growzz, if you have other people that need to contribute

  • Checked your SKUs listed by the retailer, and data associated with them, in the Review SKUs step.

The most important thing to know? You can start anywhere.

There’s no “correct” order to building your plan in Growzz. Maybe you want to begin by trying out building a BOGO (Buy One Get One) promotion to see how it Growzz works. Or maybe you want to map out some External Factors - like a wave of new store openings - and understand how that might affect your baseline volume.

However you prefer to work, Growzz is designed to give you the freedom to explore and build at your own pace.

Just Start Somewhere

The best way to get going is to just try something. Build a component. See how it behaves. You won’t break anything—and if you need to remove it or change it, you can. Even deleted components can be recovered if needed, so don’t worry about getting things wrong.

Everything Connects

As you begin to add External Factors, Ongoing Changes, and Promotions, you’ll start to see how the components interact:

  • An expectation for weather that's cooler next year, as this year was unusually warm (an External Factor) can shift your forecast base volume, which could make the same Promotion as you ran this year perform worse next year.

  • A new product introduced halfway through the year (an Ongoing Change) may grow faster than in other retailers because this retailer is opening new stores (an External Factor)

  • An in-line Promotion might be more effective next year than in the current year, because the product will have been given more space ongoing space on shelf (an Ongoing Change) and so is less likely to go out of stock when on Promotion

These relationships are what make Growzz powerful. You’re not just adding isolated tactics—you’re creating a connected, dynamic plan with real financial outcomes.

Switch Between Build & Review

As you build, don’t forget to switch into the reporting views at the bottom of the planning screen:

  • Plan Review gives a summary of your full plan

  • Week by Week lets you see timing and flow of all your components

  • Impact Report and Investment Report help you see the value you’re creating and how it’s being funded

These tools are here to help you stress-test your plan as you go, not just at the end.

So start wherever feels right. Test ideas. Explore the data. And remember—we’re just a message away in the in-app chat if you need help.
